EDUCATION
Teaching a child not to step on a caterpillar is as valuable to the child as it is to the caterpillar.

Animals feel pain and fear like we do, but they are often helpless victims because they can't express this in words. In fact, some people choose to abuse animals instead of people for this very reason! If we want to create a humane society, we must stop cruelty against those who are most vulnerable, such as animals.
One of the most powerful tools we have for preventing cruelty to animals is education. It is important to plant the seeds of kindness in children early, and to nurture their development as they grow up. Children not only need to learn what they shouldn't do, but also what they can and should do.

APA knows that today's children will soon share in the responsibilities of building a more compassionate community. The association is here to help them understand and learn the value of living with companion animals. While discussing the many joys of the human-animal bond, we also seek to help our children understand the problems of animal cruelty, pet overpopulation, euthanasia, and pet abandonment. It is our mission to educate children and adults as we build a more humane life for pets and people.
Since humane education is so important, APA works with local schools as much as possible. As there is a proven link between animal abuse and domestic abuse, APA sees a real need to teach empathy and compassion to our children. Learning compassion for animals has a definite spillover in compassion for people.
An English-language version of the "Animal Love" CD will soon be available. Keep visiting our site!
